Join Angela Nicholson and Janina Wilde for 2 days in glorious photogenic vibrant Brighton. Angela will be focussing on how thinking about aspect ratio and colour can create even more fabulous compositions. Janina will look at creating layers through different multiple exposure techniques such as 180 degrees (yes we will be performing camera acrobatics!) and compositions for using people in this genre. This is a fabulous opportunity to get expert tuition in two completely different areas of photography in an amazing location - don’t miss out - read on!
Angela is the founder of SheClicks, a thriving community for female photographers, and a highly experienced editor, reviewer and photography mentor. She’s been writing about cameras, photographic kit and techniques since 2004 and is passionate about helping people build confidence with their equipment and develop a style that feels authentic and personal. With a background that spans both science and photography, Angela brings a thoughtful, creative and down-to-earth approach to image-making. In this Brighton workshop, she’ll help you explore how aspect ratio and colour can influence the mood, balance and storytelling of your images – giving you the tools to better express your vision through your photography.
Janina is an award-winning educator and multiple exposure specialist and loves the vibrant coastal city of Brighton. Known for her ability to capture the character, shapes, and colours of architecture, Janina also brings a signature warmth to her work by blending in the rich hues of sunsets and sunrises. Whether you're completely new to multiple exposure or looking to expand your creative toolkit, Janina will guide participants through a series of techniques, including 180-degree rotation and ICM crosshatching. These methods are powerful tools for artistic self-expression and will help you unlock a new way of seeing the world around you. Throughout the weekend, Janina will lead you through the visualisation process, helping you turn imaginative ideas into unique and thought-provoking images.
No prior experience of multiple exposure is necessary, and if your camera doesn't support multiple exposure, a compatible one will be available to borrow. All you need is your enthusiasm and a willingness to explore!
This workshop offers a supportive and inspiring space for photographers, to explore, learn, and grow creatively under Angela and Janina’s thoughtful guidance.
Please note that this workshop does NOT include accommodation.
ITINERARY:
Saturday:
It will start at 10 am
Today sees us explore the Lanes which are a colourful maze of quirky shops, cosy cafés, and hidden corners—perfect for creative photography. With rich textures, reflections, and vibrant street scenes, this historic part of Brighton offers endless inspiration. We’ll explore its charm and capture the stories waiting around every twist and turn. Just a short walk away, the ornate Royal Pavilion adds exotic architecture and rich detail to your photographic palette.
We will also be out photographing at dusk. Brighton’s sunsets are pure magic—golden light spilling over the sea, silhouetting the piers and bathing the beach in warmth. It’s the perfect time to experiment with layering, reflections, and movement. Whether you’re shooting the horizon or the glow on painted beach huts, every frame feels rich with atmosphere. At this time of year we may even get lucky with the starling murmurations.
Sunday:
We will also be rising early for the sunrise - Brighton’s sunrise offers a quieter, more contemplative beauty. Soft pastel skies stretch over the calm sea, and the first light dances on the waves and rooftops. It’s an ideal time for peaceful, reflective photography—capturing long shadows, gentle tones, and the city slowly coming to life in the early morning hush.
This will be followed by Brighton’s iconic piers and colourful beach huts, which are a feast for the lens. The elegant lines of the Palace Pier, the ghostly remains of the West Pier, and the candy-striped huts along the seafront all offer striking contrast and visual rhythm. With changing skies, shifting tides, and vibrant seaside life, this area invites you to experiment with mood, movement, and multiple exposure.
