12–13 September · £449 (£150 deposit) · Max 10 Participants
Join us for a coastal-inspired weekend exploring two of the North West’s most visually powerful locations: Crosby Beach and Albert Dock, Liverpool. This workshop is designed for photographers who love atmosphere, structure and creative experimentation, with a strong focus on long exposure, square-format composition, and multiple exposure techniques.
Your Tutors
Janina Wilde
Janina is a photographer and educator known for her expressive multiple-exposure work and her warm, encouraging teaching style. She specialises in helping photographers develop creative confidence through movement, light and layered compositions. Janina’s workshops are known for being inspiring, supportive and filled with practical, hands-on learning - as well as lots of fun and laughter.
Angela Nicholson
Angela is a creative photographer, writer and founder of SheClicks. She brings an imaginative, thoughtful approach to photography, encouraging photographers to look beyond the obvious and experiment with structure and visual storytelling. Alongside her creative work, she has extensive hands-on experience with most current camera systems, which means she is equally at home helping photographers work through technical challenges and get the best from their kit. Her teaching is clear, supportive and designed to help photographers expand their creative voice.
Your locations
Crosby Beach is home to Antony Gormley’s iconic Another Place installation - 100 iron statues standing quietly in the sea. Tides, weather and light constantly transform the scene, offering endless opportunities for multiple exposure work and long exposures of water and sky.
At Albert Dock historic warehouses, strong architectural forms, reflections on the water, and clean geometric lines make it ideal for creativity. Working in square format encourages a slower, more deliberate way of seeing, while multiple exposure techniques allow you to retain architectural strength while introducing movement and individuality.
What’s Included
Two full days of expert tuition
Long exposure, square format & multiple exposure technique sessions
Guided location shoots at Crosby Beach and Albert Dock
Group feedback session (online after the workshop)
Technique PDFs to take home
Plenty of 1-to-1 guidance
Participants need their own transport to travel between locations. We recommend staying in Liverpool for easy access to both Crosby and Albert Dock.
Please note that a hotel is NOT included in the cost.
Weekend Itinerary
This itinerary is a guide and may change depending on the weather, tides and light conditions.
Day 1 - Saturday 12 September
10:00am - Meet at Crosby Beach (Low tide 07:15 am, High tide 12:37 pm)
The morning focuses on multiple exposure techniques using the Gormley figures, including placing more than one statue within a single image, using white balance creatively and exploring in-camera blend modes.
Long Exposure As the tide recedes in the afternoon, we’ll shift focus to long exposure techniques, exploring how slower shutter speeds can completely change the feel of the statues, sea, and sky. You’ll learn how to use movement, stillness, and minimalism to create images with a calm, contemplative quality.
Day 2 — Sunday 13 September
Albert Dock — Square Format & Structure
Sunday is all about the Albert Dock area of Liverpool. You’ll work primarily in square format, learning how to compose in-camera within this shape rather than cropping later. This encourages stronger design, balance, and clarity in your images.
Multiple Exposure with Architectural Integrity
The multiple exposure techniques here will focus on maintaining the strong structure of the dock while introducing creativity and uniqueness. Techniques explored include crosshatching (using intentional camera movement) and 180-degree flips. We will finish at 4 pm.
